Kokbok — Privacy Policy

Kokbok is a recipe book that lives on your phone.

What Kokbok stores

Your recipes, their photographs, your shopping list, and your settings. All of it is written to private storage on your own device. None of it is sent to us, because there is no "us" — Kokbok has no account, no sign-in, no server and no analytics of its own. We cannot see your recipes, and we could not hand them to anyone else if we were asked to.

What leaves your phone, and when

Three things, each of which only happens because of something you did:

1. Importing a recipe from a web address. When you paste a link and tap Import, Kokbok fetches that page over HTTPS so it can read the recipe out of it. The address you pasted goes to whoever runs that website, exactly as it would if you had opened the link in your browser. Nothing about you or your library is sent with it.
2. Sharing or exporting. When you share a recipe or export a backup, the file goes wherever you send it. You choose the destination — a messaging app, a cloud drive, a memory card — and Kokbok has no visibility of it afterwards.
3. Google's scanner and text recogniser. Reading a photographed cookbook page happens entirely on your phone; the photograph is never uploaded. The libraries that do it are Google's ML Kit, and they report their own usage and performance statistics to Google. That reporting is built into the libraries, it is about the software rather than about your recipes, and there is no supported way to switch it off. It is covered by Google's Privacy Policy. The first time you scan a page, Google Play services also downloads the scanner itself onto your phone.

Permissions

Kokbok asks for one permission: internet access, used only for the link import above. It does not ask for the camera or for access to your photos — when you take a picture it hands over to your phone's own camera app, and when you choose an existing picture it uses the system photo picker, which gives Kokbok the one image you chose and nothing else.

Children

Kokbok is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling Kokbok deletes everything it holds. There is no copy anywhere else to ask us about. If you have exported backups or shared recipes, those files are yours to delete wherever you put them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
